Baby #2: My hypnobirth pandemic birth story

Trigger Warning: This is a positive birth story. However, as a birth story it is fairly graphic at times.

As my due date approached, I was getting more and more restless. It probably didn’t help that only 5 days before my due date, my birth plans had to change. The South East Coast Ambulance Service was struggling due to the new Coronavirus strain in Kent and Medway and were waiting up to 10 hours outside hospitals with patients. As such, I couldn’t have the home birth I had planned as they would be unable to assist the midwives should an emergency happen. After an afternoon of crying, I brought things back into my control. I focused on the things I could have and do at Darent Valley Hospital, where I’d had a waterbirth with my daughter.

Part of my restlessness was because I find it really difficult not knowing when I’m going to go into labour, as I like to be prepared for things! Not only that, but I was so uncomfortable. Walking was incredibly painful and rolling over in bed was agony thanks to my pelvic girdle pain. However, I knew it would all be worth it when I got to meet my little boy. On the evening of 5th January, his due date, labour finally began!

Baby #2: What’s in my hospital bag?

This post contains some gifted items¦ The hospital bag is always a topic of conversation between expectant mums. There are some obvious things you should pack, but there might be other things that are less apparent. At the same time, you don’t want to overpack and have too much stuff (I made this mistake when I gave birth to my daughter!) People are also unsure when to pack their bags. Personally, I started packing my bag at around 30 weeks. Due to moving house, it took me a little longer, but I’ve just completed it at 36 weeks. Even though I am now hoping to have a home birth, it feels good to have everything in one place and will be ready to just pick up and take should my baby and I need to be transferred to hospital. Let’s take a look at what I’ve packed and the size of my bags too (another common topic of discussion!)

Baby #2: Bump Pictures and Weeks 20-27

The first half of the second trimester of pregnancy flew, but I swear the second half flew even faster! Time seems to be going in a really odd way this year and I was shocked to hit 28 weeks and find I was at the third trimester already! That said, the last few weeks haven’t been without their problems.

Hypnobirthing for an anxiety free labour

I spend a lot of time reminiscing over pregnancy and when Autumn was a newborn. Something I meant to write absolutely months ago was about hypnobirth. As a naturally anxious person, hypnobirthing was fantastic for me. Usually, I tend to panic the moment I feel out of control! However, before I embarked on it I was worried it was some ‘weird hippy thing’ that didn’t really work. In fact, it really helped me to be almost completely anxiety free throughout my whole labour.
